Terracotta Cleaning and Sealing

We service Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast, Port Stephens and the greater Hunter regions.

Terracotta has various uses including sculptures, flower pots, water and waste pipes, bricks and tiles.
Terracotta comes either glazed or un-glazed.

Even a properly sealed terracotta floor eventually deteriorates by soil from foot traffic and spillages.

Wherever the sealer has worn away or was never applied, the porous tile holds the dirt deeper than normal household cleaners and mops can reach. Dirt and stains are ground into waxes and acrylic coatings. The one big downside to terracotta tiles is that they have no glaze on the surface and can soil deeply dirt very quickly. Maintenance is key and the answer is to seal or strip and re-seal them.

Sealing your terracotta creates a barrier that provides protection against stains by chemicals, contamination and deterioration.

If you are wondering if it may be time to re-seal then you can easily test how porous your terracotta is by placing about 15-20mls or a tablespoon of water on the treated surface and leave for 20 minutes.

Then soak up the water with some paper towel or a tissue, pressing hard to soak up any water in the pores of the surface. If the water has absorbed into or leaves a dark mark on the surface, it requires more sealing.
