Granite Cleaning and Sealing

We service Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast, Port Stephens and the greater Hunter regions.

Granite is used in buildings, bridges, paving, monuments and many other exterior projects. Also in countertops, tile floors, stair treads and many other design elements.
Granite comes in a variety of surface finishes, and the number of options can be confusing. Most popular granite finishes are Polished, Honed and Brushed.

Polished granite will be both glossy and elegant. It is not as porous as other finishes, which means that it will not need to be sealed as often as other surface finishes would.

Honed granite is not reflective and shiny like a polished stone and will not show all of the colour and texture of the granite stone as well as a polished finish will. Honed granite will be more porous than polished granite, meaning more frequent sealing will be necessary.

Brushed granite also requires more frequent sealing and is most likely to become stained when they aren’t properly sealed and maintained. Dust and debris tend to accumulate in the uneven surface of brushed finish. So it needs more cleaning and maintenance.

Sealing your granite creates a barrier that provides protection against stains by chemicals, contamination and deterioration.

If you are wondering if it may be time to re-seal then you can easily test how porous your granite is by placing about 15-20mls or a tablespoon of water on the treated surface and leave for 20 minutes.

Then soak up the water with some paper towel or a tissue, pressing hard to soak up any water in the pores of the surface. If the water has absorbed into or leaves a dark mark on the surface, it requires more sealing.
